Following the 1994 World Cup hosted in the United States, plans were unveiled to establish a new soccer league in the US, the MLS, with the NJ/NY region’s team initially designated as Empire Soccer Club, set to host matches in New Jersey.

But before a ball was even kicked using that moniker, the name was changed to NY/NJ MetroStars, a title they retained until 2006 when new ownership led to a rebranding as the New York Red Bulls.

The 1996 Rage Against the Machine track "Bulls on Parade" has since become the team’s celebrated goal anthem, resonating through the stadium after every home goal.
